Hiring an SEO agency is kind of like hiring a chicken to watch all of the eggs in your basket.  I know, bad analogy  but I am short on time.  🙂

Don’t get me wrong SEO is a great way to attract new customers – in fact many of our clients are using SEO services that we provide, but it’s not the only place and maybe not even the best place for your business. Let me tell you that after many years of doing SEO that it is not easy, not if you do it in a way that works long-term. 90% of people never make it past the first page of search results on Google, therefore you pretty much need to be on the first page for SEO to benefit you. There are only about 10 spots available on the first page of Google, and you may have hundreds or thousands of businesses competing for your keywords. Even if your business does get listed on the first page of Google for your keyword, Google changes their “rules” every so often and your first page listing can go to page 2, 3, 4, or deeper overnight, then you have to start all over!

I tell business owners all of the time, don’t put your marketing eggs all in one basket! You need to diversify your marketing portfolio, and I am not talking about only medium & large sized businesses, this holds especially true for local businesses! Today’s consumer uses all sorts of different ways to seek out local business information, they read reviews, watch videos, ask friends & family, use social media outlets like Facebook, they use search engines & more.

So, yes SEO should most likely be a part of your marketing mix, but not the only part. When we bring on a new client we use a mix of digital marketing methods to ensure the best possible results, and I recommend that you do the same.
